The current world has become so materialistic that people are changing the meanings of words, in other language; people have started to set the meaning of some words by themselves. As part of such wild actions, the meaning of “Punk” has started to change in this money-oriented world. When we search at the old dictionaries, we can find the meaning of Punk as “a revolutionary alliance as an anti-societal and anti-racism movement in order to demolish the tainted government”.  The word actually stands for “People Under New Knowledge”. But, nowadays, we can find the meaning of punk as “a person who has an unusual hairstyle and odd dress up”. Actually, these types of people shouldn’t be allowed to be known as punks. What the real punks like to call them, is “Posers”.

In this contemporary world, when people change their hairstyle and use strange color in their hair keeping it straight up or else, and using some grunge dresses with the tie over a T-shirt, then, people start to call them as punks. But not to be, punks are the ones who are associated and committed to start an anti-societal movement. When we talk about the anti-societal movement, it relates to the bad aspect of the society, including the racial inequity and the old ineffectual traditions, especially the rule of the unwanted government. The dresses don’t really matter to become a punk, as the old saying goes, “It is the action that makes a man, not his outlook”. The punks use such styles as their own identification, just as the police have their own dresses.

The word “poser” came in use in the late 70’s; because of the fear regarding the death of punk, and the others who try to imitate the style of punk would have a crush on them. Later on, this word gained popularity as the punks started to pass judgment on the posers, which is still being used nowadays to illuminate the difference between the punks and the posers.

The real punks are the ones who are true to who they are and believe themselves in what they are doing, even if it comes to the anti-societal/racism activities or breaking the rules. The activity of breaking the rules is limited to some extent; the real punks only break the rules when it includes the anti-government movement. The posers think that punk is all about breaking the rules. But, punk is not only about breaking the rules; it is whole lot different than what we think and what they think. It is something that people haven’t been able to recognize since the past few decades. When someone breaks the set of laws and does some notorious behavior then, the people classify such person as a punk, which is absolutely an unjustified action that has led to the modification of the meaning of the word. Accordingly, we cannot clarify them; neither as a “punk” nor as a “poser”; they are someone who should be known as a “criminal” or the “law breaker”.

Talking more about the punks and the posers, the punks have strong sensibility of knowing the flaws of the society, for what they start their own style of revolution, or shall we say the anti-societal movement. They have that desire to change the society, change the system of the society, so that the world doesn’t end up into a ridiculous place, so that there won’t be racial discrimination that is occurring today, so that the people around the world can live with dignity. The only reason that punks are considered Anti-government is because a lot of laws do not help the common people. A lot of laws in the world benefit mostly the wealthy. But, the posers have no concerns about the blemish of the humanity, not even a gesture regarding the matter. Their only concern is their fashion trend, gaining popularity, breaking the rules for their own selfishness, and most annoying of them all, acting like a freak. With such proceedings, they are annihilating the name of punk.

It is way hard to become a punk than what most of the people think. The road is filled with nails, and to reach the destiny; is a long road to travel. Walking the clumsy road, a lot of sacrifices has to be made; a lot of thing has to be known. Wearing the labeled T-shirts with something like “I AM PUNK” written on it, shopping at the hot topic, etc. doesn’t make anybody punk, instead it leads to the path of the posers. That is why; it has become hard to find people who can be called as a “true punk” in these days.

So, it is the human brain to understand that punks and posers are completely different to each other, and it is upon the people themselves to understand the importance of punk in the mainstream of the society, and try not to annihilate the meaning of punk, being a poser or anybody else without knowing. The pioneers of the real punks might be dead already, but the movement still lives upon, and the followers are still there to continue the movement.
